Sympathetic Hypertensive Syndrome (SHS)
Sympathetic surgery has been used to treat Angina and Hypertension for more than 60 years, but its therapeutic mechanism is still obscure. After a large series of clinical studies, Sympathetic Hypertensive Syndrome (SHS), a kind of surgical curable hypertension, was found by Dr. Lin. Sympathetic Hypertensive Syndrome includes: 1) Facial hyperhidrosis or blushing; 2) Blood pressure > 100 mmHg in diastolic pressure; 3) Pulse rate > 100 beats/min, which are “Triad of Sympathetic Hypertensive Syndrome”. Clinically, 25.0 – 30.0% of essential hypertensive patients are classified into Sympathetic Hypertensive Syndrome (SHS), which can be treated effectively by sympathetic procedure. Better surgical outcome is noted on people with ages before 45 years.

Dr. Lin and Chow were performing ESB on a 25 year-old young man with facial sweating and hypertension. Cure of hypertension is achieved after more than two years of follow-up.
